Nothing

And then there was nothing. What was supposed to be a sweet homecoming back to the States to be reunited as a family of four suddenly came to a screeching halt. My world stopped. Promises and plans of our happily ever after became a painful reminder that our precious daughter would not be with us. Although she had been with us for a few months already, they demanded that we “return” her. The deep aching in my heart manifested physically as shingles and colitis. I went through some of the darkest days of my life. My son and I boarded the plane, just the two of us. He was only 4 years old- too young to understand what was going on. But he held my hand and said to me, “Mommy it’s going to be ok.” Little did he know just how right he would be.
